TRAVELING UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FUND (TURF) CCS STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS
The College of Creative Studies (CCS) is now accepting applications for the 2016-2017 Academic Year Student Travel Grants
Spring deadline: April 17, 2017
WHAT. The TURF Grant awards travel funds to CCS students who have (1) been invited or selected to present a paper, present research, perform, or exhibit work at a professional conference or meeting; or (2) wish to attend a workshop, residency, conference, museum, performance or other event related to their studies in CCS. Applicants must be CCS students with a 3.0 GPA or better. Students are eligible to receive one TURF grant during their undergraduate career at UCSB. The amount of the grant is dependent on available funds and may not cover the entire costs of travel.
WHEN. Grants are awarded to eligible students on a first-come, first-served basis twice per year. Application deadlines for 2016-17 are November 7 and April 17.
HOW TO APPLY. Applicants must submit the following items:
- A completed TURF application, including a detailed budget form. Download the application here.
- A brief (no more than 500 words) letter of support for this specific event from the student’s research/project advisor or faculty advisor.
- If presenting, an abstract of the paper or project to be presented and a copy of the formal invitation for the presentation or performance.
- If attending but not presenting, a brief description (no more than 500 words, written for a non-specialist) of how participation in the event will benefit the academic, creative and/or professional development of the student.
Please submit your application with all supporting materials to the CCS TURF Committee through Jen Johansen, CCS room 102.
Terms of the Award
Applicants will be informed of decision by December 1(or May 1 for the Spring deadline), including the amount of funds to be awarded.
Funding can be used to cover the costs of registration, entrance, or residency fees (if applicable), transportation, and housing. Keep all original receipts for reimbursement.
Any travel other than a direct route from Santa Barbara to the conference location must be approved by the College prior to departure.
Travel vouchers and original receipts for approved travel must be submitted to the College within 10 days of completion of the trip. Travel award funds will not be held in reserve for late vouchers.
CCS may list participants’ names and grant information to help with promotion of the TURF program. This includes digital (website, social media, etc.) and print (newsletters, brochure, etc.) media. Contact Jen Johansen for more information or to opt out.
