Introduction to Writing Studies

Course Description

This course will consider how writers can apply the findings and theories of writing studies to understanding themselves as writers, the goals they can accomplish through writing, and how they can direct their own development as writers. Writing studies examines such questions as what kinds of things people write, what situations they write them for, what writing accomplishes, how writing has developed historically and expanded in its forms and functions, how human activities and social systems have come to depend on writing, how people go about writing, how people develop as writers, and how people can be supported in learning writing.
