NARRATIVE JOURNALISM

Course Description

In this student-led colloquium, we will explore the eclectic forms of narrative nonfiction with a specific focus on narrative journalism, the art of reporting.Guided by various theoretical lenses that will inform our inquiry, we will read a range of exemplary works by narrative journalists such as Tim Kreider, Joan Didion, and Julian Assange. Further, we will practice creating story maps of successful bodies of narrative nonfiction, allowing us to gain a technical and practical understanding of story mechanics, which we can then apply to our own writing.

This is a student-led colloquium led by Mattie Jones under the supervision of Kara Mae Brown.
