Course Description

A madeleine, dipped in tea, once made Marcel Proust "cease to feel mediocre." Tita makes her Chabela Wedding Cake with 170 eggs, each one reminding her of the roosters she had to castrate. An unnamed narrator finally relents and takes the green eggs and ham from Sam-I-am, declaring that he will eat them anywhere. Food gives us power and pleasure, and cooking, eating, and writing it are creative acts. This class will focus on food writing, helping us write about our ancestors, our landscape, our childhoods, our heritage, our bodies, and our desires.
