Course Description

This is the third quarter of a year-long class designed to help you learn to do experimental physics research. The third quarter will focus on the design and construction of scientific apparatus.

You will learn about materials, fasteners, and basic principles of mechanical design.

You will have the opportunity to use a 3-D CAD (Computer Aided Design) program that will let you build parts in three dimensions and then obtain the requisite machine drawings from whichever views you choose.

To put all this new knowledge to work, the class will design and build specialized research instruments and lecture demonstration equipment for use on campus.

Prerequisites: Phys CS 15A and Phys CS 15B.

A lab fee will be assessed to your BARC account.
