Anna James is a marine scientist and educator and is thrilled to reconnect with the CCS community (she's an alum!). Fascinated by the interactions between microbes and their environment, her PhD was spent sampling ocean-dwelling bacteria from large research vessels as part of her work in the Carlson lab at UCSB. As a postdoc in the Wilbanks lab, she helped develop an interdisciplinary collaboration to study the vast collection of microbes that makeup the giant kelp microbiome. She is excited to use this extensive interest and experience in our coastal oceans to help build the Marine Science program in CCS. She will also be teaching in the department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology, where she will apply her passion for developing innovative and research-based practices in teaching and learning to Introductory Biology courses.
