Synopsis: This unusual text (comprising more than 2000 problems in linear algebra and linear analysis) is exposing in a gradual and accessible format all major ideas which have shaped XX-th Century mathematical analysis. The effectiveness of the approach advocated by the two authors is validated by the high success of several generations of students who followed their method.
In this ten week class we will interactively cover most of the book. The students will be asked to prepare before every lecture a selection of problems which will in turn be solved collectively. In this respect the class will be more demanding than a standard lecture-exam format, but in the end the reward will be incommensurable.
Students interested in all aspects of pure mathematics, theoretical physics, statistics and some areas of engineering are encouraged to enroll.
