This is a CCS student led colloquium that will be led by Xarabyte (Ben Hurst) under the supervision of Jennifer Vanderpool.
Queer Arts & Culture is a radical space for artistic expression that will include lectures, workshops, and studio arts practicums. The aim of the class is to consciously raise questions about the term “queer” and illuminate the narratives of marginalized queer/trans bodies around the world with a focus on the United States. Lectures will cover topics ranging: the intersection of queer art and activism, trans women of color narratives through performance, and the persistence of raunchy queer sex in visual art. Workshops will serve as an interface for teaching arts techniques to the students; topics will range from: drag make-up sessions led by nonbinary and trans individuals to print workshops for DIY political posters. Studio arts practicums will provide space for the students to create work for their final project.
