A class designed for students interested in learning the principles of visual and communication design that weaves together both practical/analog and digital methods, with an emphasis on the history of design, from illuminated manuscripts to the Bauhaus to meme culture. Lectures will discuss artists throughout history who work(ed) with typography, signage, image plus text, and multiples. Assignments include designing a personal logo/mark, a book cover, and a unique font. The class’ curriculum and assignments highlight both conceptual and formal approaches. Pre-requisite: 7B: Image Studies.
