This course is a REQUIRED course for CCS Music Composition Majors, who must enroll in at least one unit's credit. Available to other undergraduates studying composition on a space-available basis.
In the first analysis, the course concerns itself with READING. That is, it provides an opportunity to try out your music with real musicians and conductor in a studio setting.
In the 2020 edition of Readings in New Music, we will explore a variety of means for students to hear their music in a workshop setting, learn rehearsal techniques by working directly with musicians, and be exposed to guest artists. The sessions will be recorded, but a polished recording is not the primary goal of the course. If there is sufficient interest, we may use the class as a springboard for a CCS Composers’ Concert.
More detailed information will be forthcoming, but among the Music Department ensembles interested in collaborating with us are the Percussion Ensemble, The Flute Choir, and the Maurice Faulkner Brass Quintet. If you are interested in writing for those ensembles, please take the opportunity to do so, and to make arrangements to attend one or more rehearsals this quarter.
