Course Description

Earn 2-4 units P/NP while doing good work! This Course is Cross-Listed with ART 194. After a long period of academic isolation and minimal physical contact, this course will provide students with the opportunity to explore ways to escort viewers into tactile experiences and interactive situations. Sculptures that can be touched, paintings that need group completion, or performances that require the audience to engage are but a few of the ways that we can all begin to emerge from our shells after a long period of hibernation. If you desire the chance to be physically present with other people, share experiences, talk about tangible objects, while maintaining minimal screen-time this is the class for you. We will take inspiration from art movements such as the Fluxus, Situationists, Performance Art, and contemporary Social Practice as well as drawing on students’ interests in the fields of science, philosophy, pop culture, or theater (to name a few.) This course is designed to shake the dust off and get us all active and engaged in real spaces that we get to share with the physical presence of other humans, while also exploring the issues and passions that represent individual student’s core values and fascinations.
