RESEARCH AND PRACTICE: INDEPENDENT STUDIO PROJECTS

Course Description

This course aims to strengthen and enhance each student’s personal research and practice. Students will be responsible for initiating, developing and creating a body of art work all while maintaining experimentation and exploration in their practice. Students may continue an existing series, explore a new direction in their work, or create a new work body of work that may include limited edition artists' book or series, or develop and finalize work for the senior exhibition in other media.

We will be focusing on how research strengthens conceptual development and production of each student’s project into a cohesive whole: a connection of form and content. In addition to attending lectures, student progress will be evaluated throughout the quarter in independent and class critiques, regularly scheduled meetings and discussions with faculty and peers. Students are expected to set ambitious and attainable goals for artwork and to be able to work independently and consistently in their area of focus.
