This class will be a typographic trip around the world. We will cover the ways in which wood has been used to print type and image-based prints from around the globe. We will also examine how text glyphs and characters tie to non-Western spoken, gestural and graphic forms of communication. With a focus on various Western and non-Western woodcut printing techniques, we will print text and images which can be used to produce limited editioned prints or bound into various book structures. The class is open to art majors in all areas of emphasis and to students from other majors who wish to explore a creative project.
