THE FICTIVE BODY

Course Description

This course will explore the Fictive Body within sculpture. Together, we will investigate narrative forms of sculpture, pulling from its historical origins and expanding its evolution into contemporary contexts. We will utilize fiction and personal mythologies as a means to experiment with the potential of sculpture as an archival medium. Through a combination of studio and seminar activities, students will engage with sculpture-related readings, interact with practicing artists, and examine how viewers navigate and interpret the spatial aspects of the art form. Students are expected to build upon their existing artistic practices, considering spatial elements in the creation of a new work intended for a final group exhibition. Prerequisites include an already existing foundation in sculpture. Limited to CCS Art and L&S Art majors.
