SLC: STORYTELLING THROUGH MUSIC

Course Description

No one can lie, music is entertaining. It can be more than just entertainment. For centuries, music has been a tool for carrying myths, folktales, and stories.

Nowadays, music typically takes a supporting role in carrying narratives. But in many ways, stories are at the heart of music. From energetic pop songs to dramatic sweeping movie scores, an array of stories are waiting to be uncovered.

Students will study how composers of various media achieve narrative through the use of music without or in conjunction with other storytelling forms.

This is a student-led colloquium led by Jared Gallardo under the supervision of Leslie Hogan.
