Dr. Marlene Zuk (CCS Biology ‘77) was recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Dr. Zuk, a professor at the University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences, researches behavioral ecology and evolutionary biology through the use of invertebrate systems.

NAS membership is based on a scientist’s “distinguished and continuing achievements in original research” and is widely considered to be one of the highest honors in the scientific field. Each year, a maximum of 100 new members and 25 foreign associates may be elected to NAS. Dr. Zuk joins the ranks of 2,347 active NAS members and 487 foreign associates. In addition, her election contributes to a record-breaking year, as forty percent of this year’s elected members are women.
