Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, Dr. Laverman attended Washington State University in Pullman, WA where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 1993. He worked in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Ford  at UCSB studying mechanisms of reactions of nitric oxide (NO) with metalloporphyrins and heme proteins and earned his Ph.D. in 1999.  He started teaching at UCSB in 2000 and is a co-author of the general chemistry textbook,  "Chemical Principles: The Quest for Insight", 6th Edition published in 2013.
