Spot the Robot Dog Visits CCS

One early Spring day, CCS students went to walk a dog on campus. Not just any dog, but Spot the Robot Dog! With a wide range of abilities, such as navigating challenging terrain and withstanding extreme temperatures, Spot is designed to help in a variety of situations that may be difficult or dangerous for humans. The opportunity to see Spot in action came courtesy of Bob Proebstel of FLIR Systems, Inc. a global tech company that specializes in thermal imaging equipment. FLIR Systems has welcomed many UCSB students as interns over the years, affording them a valuable experience. First year CCS computer scientist Nathan Wachholz, a current intern at FLIR, realized what a great opportunity bringing the robo dog to campus would present to both the students and the dog, who seemed to have a fine time showing off.
