Patrick Tran (CCS Physics ‘22) Receives 2021 Barry Goldwater Scholarship
National scholarship awarded to STEM undergraduates
CCS physics student Patrick Tran is one of the recipients of the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship this year. Patrick’s accomplishment continues a history of CCS students receiving this award, with two CCS physics students having received the scholarship last year.
In 1986, Congress established the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation in honor of Senator Barry Goldwater. Each year, this foundation awards the Scholarship to approximately 400 undergraduate sophomores and juniors majoring in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering fields.
Patrick was also a 2020 CCS Roig Fellow as part of the CCS Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program and he presented his research at the CCS Research and Creative Activities Conference in Fall 2020. For the past few years, Patrick has worked with Dr. Paul Atzberger studying “theoretical and computational models of particle dynamics on curved surfaces and their applications to cellular biology.” In the future, he is interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in theoretical physics to conduct research in soft-matter, mathematical, or high-energy physics and to teach at the university level.
Join CCS in congratulating Patrick!
