The College of Creative Studies (CCS) is delighted to announce that four students have received full scholarships to attend the Santa Barbara Writers Conference (SBWC) on June 9-14, 2024. Everyone at the College is grateful to Monte Schulz ’83 (MA, College of Letters & Science), the owner of the SBWC, and to SBWC Director Grace Rachow for providing these scholarships once again this year for students with a passion for writing to attend the conference, celebrating its 51st anniversary this year.

CCS Writing & Literature students Sam Healy ’26, Sophia Martinez ’24, and Ava Moreci ’25, along with Julieta Aguirre, a second-year student at King's College in London majoring in English and Film, currently part of the Study Abroad program at UCSB for the Winter and Spring quarters in the College of Letters & Science English and Film and Media Studies programs, will attend the conference. These aspiring student writers will partake in a remarkable week-long event at the Mar Monte Hotel in Santa Barbara. Opportunities like this allow students to socialize, learn from peers, and explore career alternatives.

Established in 1972, the SBWC provides a place for writers from around the world to connect and network with other writers, as well as with agents, editors, and other publishing professionals. The SBWC offers a wide variety of instructional workshops on a range of literary topics and other opportunities.
