Loie Hollowell (CCS Art ’05) to Exhibit Overview Effect at Pace Gallery in Los Angeles
Alumna explores cosmic wonders in solo exhibition on view November 9, 2024 to January 18, 2025
Alumna Loie Hollowell ‘05 (CCS Art) will present Overview Effect, a solo exhibition of new paintings, at Pace Gallery in Los Angeles from November 9, 2024 to January 18, 2025. This will be Hollowell’s first solo show in Southern California, featuring six of her largest works to date. All are invited to the opening on Saturday, November 9.
The exhibit takes its name from the “overview effect”—the awe-inspiring experience astronauts report when viewing Earth from space. Hollowell’s vivid compositions capture this cosmic perspective through striking color, symmetry, and bold geometries that evoke a sense of interconnectedness and wonder. Her limited palette, focusing on primary colors, hints at the basic and elemental.
Loie has recently gained international recognition with Overview Effect following her acclaimed exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Pace New York, and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Institute for Contemporary Art. From her explorative beginnings in CCS Art to her recent cosmic evolution, Hollowell’s work continues to make a vibrant impact in the art realm.
