CCS Computing Faculty Phil Conrad receives national recognition for computing education research
Conrad honored with Best Paper Award at SIGCSE 2025 for study on improving student reflection in introductory courses

CCS Computing Faculty Phil Conrad has received a Best Paper Award at the 2025 Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) Technical Symposium, one of the premier conferences for computer science education. Conrad’s co-authored paper, “Improving Agile Retrospectives through Metacognitive Scaffolding,” explores strategies for increasing equity and engagement in introductory computer science courses through collaborative, project-based learning.
Hosted by the SIGCSE, the annual symposium brings together educators, researchers and practitioners to share advances in teaching and learning in computing.
The College congratulates Professor Conrad on this recognition of his outstanding contributions to computing education.
