CCS Art Faculty Member Iman Djouini Selected for World-Renowned Venice Biennale
Djouini to present her interdisciplinary series Limn in the Personal Structures exhibition at the 2026 Biennale
College of Creative Studies (CCS) Art Faculty Iman Djouini has been selected to present a solo exhibition as part of Personal Structures at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, from May 9 through November 2026. The Venice Biennale is internationally recognized as the world’s most prestigious contemporary art event, often referred to as the 'Olympics of the art world.’
Djouini’s installation continues her ongoing interdisciplinary series “Limn,” blending historical and digital technologies, including printmaking and computational linguistics, to explore North African women’s storytelling traditions as a catalyst for linguistic evolution. The exhibition will feature embossed woodblock prints, a letterpress artist book, video and audio elements, as well as a public art installation that incorporates sound recordings throughout the streets of Venice.
“As an artist, I think a lot about how we experience language collectively—visually, sonically and culturally. The Biennale offers a space to reflect on that shared experience and imagine what new languages might emerge from it.”
—Iman Djouini, CCS Art and Department of Art Assistant Teaching Professor
Djouini holds a joint appointment at UC Santa Barbara as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the College of Creative Studies Art program and the Department of Art in the College of Letters and Science Humanities and Fine Arts Division.
