Dr. Sharon Tettegah's "From Social Justice to Sentient Systems: Technology, Emotion, and the Arc of Human-Centered Research"
From Dr. Sharon Tettegah, CCS Faculty, Department of Black Studies Director for the Center for Black Studies Research, Department of Black Studies Professor:
This year marks a significant milestone for the Center for Black Studies Research. To celebrate eight years of leadership and growth under her direction, we cordially invite you to a special presentation by our Director, Dr. Sharon Tettegah.
In her first formal talk at the CBSR in eight years, Dr. Tettegah will share her personal and scholarly journey in a presentation titled:
From Social Justice to Sentient Systems:
Technology, Emotion, and the Arc of Human-Centered Research
Dr. Tettegah will reflect on the evolution of her transdisciplinary scholarship, spanning from the foundational roots of social justice and multicultural education to the cutting edge of sentient systems and responsible artificial intelligence. She will discuss how the values of dignity, equity, and liberation have remained the North Star of her research career, culminating in the development of the BEETS framework (Bias, Equity, Ethics, Trust, and Security).
As a special highlight, Dr. Terrance Wooten and Dean Tim Sherwood will join the event as guest speakers to discuss their scholarly collaborations with Dr. Tettegah. Lunch will also be provided for all attendees.
We hope you will join us for this meaningful look at the research and vision that continue to shape the future of our Center.
