Thomas Hakanson '22 (CCS Music Composition) will present How to Say Goodbye and Really Mean It, a CCS Music Composition senior recital, on May 27th, 2022 at 7:30pm in the Old Little Theater. 

Daniel Mitchell '22 (CCS Music Composition) will present his senior composition recital on May 19, 2022 at 8:00pm in the UCSB Music Building, Geiringer Hall. 

Adam Schmieder will present his CCS Music Composition Senior Recital in the CCS Art Gallery space, on May 14th at 4:30pm.

Silicon Valley Requiem is a composition based on the requiem mass but replacing the liturgical environment with the public theater of Tech CEOs. A trio of synthesized male voices singing Gregorian chant melodies is paired with two live female performers singing statements regarding their actions on earth to a monolithic adjudicating soprano projected above. The application of contemporary technology on medieval plainchant creates a plethora of complex philosophical questions. What does it mean for non-humans to sing a text fundamental to the human condition, mortality, and the afterlife? If a techno-utopia is being sold to us by icons of Silicon Valley here on earth, are we living a post-human existence?

The Art of Science is a collaboration between the Schuller Lab, the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at the California NanoSystems Institute, the College of Creative Studies, the Writing Program, and the UCSB Library. 

Jaze Matteo Wharton '22 (CCS Music Composition) will present his senior composition recital on April 6, 2022 at 8:00 PM in Geiringer Hall. The program will feature 5 world premieres and a performance by members of the UCSB Ensemble for Contemporary Music, directed by Dr. Sarah Gibson.
