CCS Writing & Literature Faculty Wendy Eley Jackson's Documentary Under Academy Consideration
Facing the Falls Calls for Disability Advocacy, Resilience, and Breaking Barriers
Facing the Falls, a documentary short co-produced by CCS Writing & Literature Faculty Wendy Eley Jackson, is officially under consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The film tells the story of international disability rights advocate and entrepreneur Cara Elizabeth Yar Khan, who, despite living with a progressive muscle-wasting disease, takes on a grueling 12-day expedition through the Grand Canyon.
“This film serves as a call to action, urging audiences to become advocates for change and to help break down the barriers of misunderstanding and prejudice that continue to marginalize people with disabilities.”

The documentary highlights the triumphs and tribulations Cara faces as she navigates the remote wilderness while unable to walk unassisted. “At its core, Facing The Falls is a story about resilience, empowerment, and the universal pursuit of purpose—an inspiration for all of us to push beyond our perceived limitations”, Wendy commented.
The film has garnered national attention, with recent features on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and in People Magazine.
